Herdleflaket
Spring, summer and autumn, there is bird life on Valen, and the tidal zone is especially attractive. Out on Herdlaflaket, you see ducks and other diving birds all year round, but most in winter.
Kollevågen
From 1938 until 1975 there was a large amount of trash dumped in Kollevågen. A lot of the garbage from the city of Bergen ended up here. The dump was up to 20 metres high, and much got dumped under water in the bay. When the dump was closed, the time had come to make good on a municipal promise to make the place into a recreation area. In 1978, nets and earth were laid over the dump, and afterward it was sowed with seeds. This was quite successful, and In 1983, the recreation area was opened.
Skogsøyna
There isn't much forest on Skogsøyna today, but that there is, has been planted. There is not much wildlife, either. But, quite a lot of birds pass by Skogsøyna during migration time. Ther is no other place along the coast where you can better observe the seabird migrations.
Herdla- Migrating birds
Bergen folk landed on it, long and well. The Germans took it over, during the Second World War. The birds had been doing it for several thousands of years: HERDLA is the main airport for migrating birds during their autumn migrations.
Bjellandsvatnet
Lake Bjellandsvatnet is one of the richest wetland areas in Sveio. But, everything has its limit, and the supply of nutrients can be too much. This is what was about to happen in Lake Bjellandsvatnet.
Einstapevoll- slates
“On the country of Wallestrand…the rock almost everywhere appears to be of a slate-like substance, be it at the seashore, on the farms or in their distant fields”.
