Bruknappen

The hostelry place in Bruknappen is situated north in Radsundet, just south of Festo, by a sheltered idyllic bay, close to the main lane. Sloops both from Sognefjorden and Nordland had their fixed stops at “the blacksmith in Bruknappen”; on their way to Bergen, fully loaded with wood and hazel hoops, barrels and chests, or on their way home with town merchandise.

Fossevatna

Fossevatna, some few kilometres north of Alversund, is one of the finest wetland areas in Lindås. Especially the birdlife has made this place well known. Throughout the year, one can make exciting bird discoveries. But, if you want to hear the flight games skal høre med fagredaktør Stein Byrkjeland of the Snipe, you should come here on a spring or summer evening.

Isdalstø

Haugsdalen

Early in the 1900s there were much larger salt water deltas in Hordaland. But, essentially all of the larger river deltas got filled in and regulated for use in industry during the last century. Now, there is only Haugsdals delta left.

Leiro

Herlandsnesjane

Herlandsnesjane, a four-kilometre long peninsula in Lake Storavatnet in the middle of Osterøy, is well known among botanists. Here lies an unusually large and diverse bog.

Toska

The peat bogs on Toska have been mined for peat since 1946, when the island got electricity. In this treeless coastal landscape, peat was the most important source of energy, and this took quite a toll on the bogs.

Lake Nesheimvatnet

Purkebolsvatnet

Lake Purkebolsvatnet is perhaps western Norway's largest sleeping city - for birds. They come in the thousands, usually in later summer and autumn. The barn swallows alone number 10 000 - 12 000 at their most numerous.

Myking

Between Lake Kvalheimsvatnet and Lake Mykingsvatnet, north of Grindheim, we find one of the biggest continuous lowland bogs in Hordaland. It is 500-600 metres across and a whole 2 kilometres long. Locally, the bog is called "Havet" .
