Hallstatt sword (Leif Stavdahl (Maihaugen), H.M.)

HALLSTATT - LEKVE

Just over 150 years ago a bronze sword was found at the Lekve mountain pasture Seberg. The sword is of a unique type that was called Hallstatt sword. The Alpine town Hallstatt in Austria, with its exceptionally rich grave finds, has also given name to the oldest Iron Age culture in Middle Europe, the Hallstatt Culture approx. 700-400 B.C. Hallstatt swords of iron and bronze found their way over large parts of Europe. Only one is found in this country.
