Sysendammen

The Sysendammen Dam is clearly visible from Highway 7, 2-3 kilometres above Maurset, and is comparable to Eidfjord terrace in size. The dam was built during the latter half of the 1970s. It dams up the previously unregulated Sysen Lake from 1881 to 940 metres above sea level when the reservoir is full. The landscaping of Sysendammen was much discussed in its time. NVE finally chose not to have grass in front of the dam, as is normally done in similar landscaping projects to decrease the effects of erosion. Sysendammen is supposed to look like what it in fact is, a man-made monument of stone.
