BRIDAL OAK AT LOTE – THE THICKEST IN NORWAY

The bridal oak is a protected oak tree at Lote Farm. It stands very near the road, a few steps from the old square from the time before one had to vacate the premises upon a change in ownership. The circumference of this giant is 10.3 metres. No one knows if there a thicker tree than this in all of Norway. It might be 900 years old, but the exact number is uncertain. In olden times the bridal party had its boat landing here when they came from the church. The bridal "dram" was poured by the bridal oak, and thereafter the bridal party continued at the wedding farm.
