Old pine forest (Bjørn Moe)
One area of the open forest by Brennhaugen in Munkebotsdalen gives a different forest experience from the somewhat homogeneous, densely planted forest along the way to Fløyen. When you have taken off from the road above Lake Munkebotssvatnet, you come into a pine forest without marked trails. In this forest there is also birch and some places hazel and sycamore maple. Higher up on the slope there are the remains of an old pine forest. The trees have grown quite large with thick branches, and some of them are believed to be at least 300 years old.
